Market Systems Technology Management
Market Systems Technology, Inc. is led by its co-founders, Jack Swan and Trevor Miller. Mr. Swan and Mr. Miller have extensive software development and financial services industry experience and have focused their careers on developing low latency, high performance, reliable solutions for the financial services industry.
Jack Swan, President
Mr. Swan was a systems design and development engineer with Monchik-Weber Associates, and Chief Architect in the Fidelity Investments Advanced Technologies group prior to founding Market Systems Technology in 1984. As MST's President, he led the team that designed and developed a Stratus-based ticker processing plant (Market Access), as well as exchange ticker interfaces for Market Access installations.
Telerate, Inc. purchased MST in 1987. Mr. Swan, as President of Telerate's Market Systems Technology subsidiary, was responsible for integrating Market Access with existing Telerate systems, as well as integrating MST with the parent company. He also established MST's London office and Market Access installations in London and Singapore.
In 1989, Dow Jones and Company, Inc. purchased Telerate and MST. Mr. Swan, as President of the Market Systems Technology Division, was responsible for global deployment of Market Access as well as the integration of Market Access and MST with existing Dow Jones systems. MST, with offices in London and Boston, grew to nearly fifty people to support over 100 exchange ticker sources around the world and Market Access systems in Boston, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, London, Milan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and San Francisco.
In 1999, MST was reincorporated as a private, independent company. Mr. Swan resumed his role as President, refocusing the company on software development and consulting, and rebuilding its business relationships. He has also played a pivotal role in the development of software assets MST has used to fuel its growth without outside funding.
Mr. Swan is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Trevor Miller, Vice President of Systems Development and Technology
Prior to co-founding MST, Mr. Miller was a project manager for Logica, focused on the financial services sector, with projects ranging from electronic funds transfer systems to pre- and post- trade information networks to real-time mutual fund pricing systems. In 1984, he and Mr. Swan founded Market Systems Technology. As Vice President, he led the group that specialized in developing securities pricing and information systems for the financial sector, and the first versions of Market Access, MST’s financial ticker processing technology.
In 1987, when Telerate, Inc. purchased MST, Mr. Miller became Vice President, Projects and Technology for the MST subsidiary, overseeing development and deployment of Market Access systems around the world. After Dow Jones and Co. purchased Telerate and MST, Mr. Miller was promoted to Vice President of Technical Planning. He led the group responsible for planning the infrastructure and strategic technical direction for Dow Jones, and continued to contribute to Market Access development.
After MST reincorporated, Mr. Miller became Vice President, Systems Development and Technology. He has led the design and implementation of MST's new generation of financial ticker processing and messaging middleware products on high-performance, low-cost platforms such as Unix and Linux running on readily available hardware from vendors such as IBM, HP, and Dell. This design philosophy, stressing open systems approaches and an inherent architectural elegance, has enabled portability between many platforms, and application interfaces in an array of languages.
Mr. Miller is an honors graduate of Hatfield Polytechnic in England.
